Unexpected Places for a Safety Inspection Checklist

Most equipment has a safety inspection checklist that is supposed to be verified before the use of that equipment. Most people ignore these checklists, assuming that the equipment is suitable for use. For most people, this is fine and nothing bad happens. The checklist is then used to protect the manufacturer of the product in case of failure. If the checklist was not used, the manufacturer is not liable for the injuries incurred for improper use of the equipment. The use of the checklist is often taught to new employees and new owners of the equipment. The checklist itself is designed to follow OSHA regulations of health and safety.

When was the last time the car has been checked for use? There is a safety inspection checklist that is supposed to be verified before each use of a vehicle. This inspection list includes the quality and wear on the tires, the function of the lights, power steering and braking tests. Most people do not follow this inspection checklist before turning the car on and driving away. Failure to follow this checklist can result in multiple fines and citations if a failure of any type occurs. Injury or death may even result if the brakes or lights give out during use.

There is a safety inspection checklist that people are supposed to follow when entering the workplace. This checklist is to verify that the previous shift has left everything in a safe and clean manner. This includes that debris is off the floor, that the items are placed where they are supposed to be and the general house keeping is done. Workplaces are the second highest places for injury besides the home. Following a checklist to ensure that the workplace is safe before working is essential to preventing injury or even death.

After a long day at work, most people are not interested in following a safety inspection checklist when entering the home, in particular the kitchen. At this point, most people are interested in making dinner and having something to drink. The home is the number one place for injuries. The kitchen is the number one room for injuries to occur. Before working in the kitchen, a person should check to see that the kitchen is safe. This includes verifying that the floor is clean and dry, the knives are not loose in the sink and that the oven and stove are turned off.
